Is Chiang Mai cheaper than Bangkok?
For most budget categories, yes — especially rent and food. A mid-range 1-bedroom apartment in Nimman runs 12,000–18,000 THB/month; a comparable unit in Ekkamai or Ari (Bangkok) runs 20,000–35,000 THB/month. Street food and local dining are comparable. International-school fees are roughly similar between the two cities.
What neighborhood should a digital nomad live in?
Nimmanhaemin is the obvious answer — best cafe density, fastest internet, most English-friendly landlords. Santitham is the savvy second choice: 20% cheaper rent, 10 minutes by bike from all the Nimman amenities, with a more local feel.
